Managing 3G Femtos

1:05 PM -- I'm mildly tickled by some of the technological ironies in the Ericsson AB (Nasdaq: ERIC)-Sprint Corp. (NYSE: S) managed services deal. (See Ericsson, Sprint in $5B Managed Services Deal.) Consider: Ericsson has said before that it sees no business case for 3G femtocells because WiFi solves the problem of improving data coverage in the home. Sprint meanwhile has gone on the record, saying that it will be the first U.S. operator to introduce a 3G femtocell. (See Sprint: We'll Beat AT&T to 3G Femto and Ericsson's 3G Femto Issue.)

Maybe Ericsson will figure out whether 3G femtos have a point while it learns how to manage the wee beasties as they get deployed on the Sprint network?
