FREMONT, Calif. -- Bandwidth9, a leader in flexible, reliable, and cost-effective optical components and subsystems that make metro networks more manageable and profitable, today announced the appointment of Dr. Kenichi Iga to its technical advisory board. Dr. Iga's career spans more than 30 years of researching fiber optics, lasers, and micro-optics at the Tokyo Institute of Technology. He is widely considered the "Father of Surface Emitting Lasers" for his revolutionary research in that field. "Dr Iga is a pioneer in surface emitting lasers and his vision and experience are unmatched in the industry," said Dr. Connie Chang-Hasnain, founder and CTO of Bandwidth9. "The inclusion of Dr. Iga on our technical advisory board is valuable as we advance the surface emitting laser technology to develop cost-effective optical solutions in metro area networks." Bandwidth9 develops optoelectronic products and technologies based upon Vertical Cavity Surface Emitting Laser (VCSEL) technology, which is a descendent technology from the field that Dr. Iga pioneered. In a separate release: Bandwidth9, a leader in flexible, reliable, and cost-effective optical components and subsystems that make metro networks more manageable and profitable, today announced the appointment of Dr. Tingye Li to its technical advisory board. Dr. Li, former division manager in the Communication Infrastructure Research Laboratory of AT&T Laboratories, is widely considered the "Founder of WDM" for his pioneering research on wavelength division multiplexed transmission systems. These systems have revolutionized telecommunications networks by dramatically increasing fiber-optic capacity in both long-haul and metro area networks. "Dr Li brings to Bandwidth9 a clear vision for future lightwave systems and networks, based on 41 years of experience conducting advanced lightwave systems research," said Dr. Connie Chang-Hasnain, founder and chief technical officer of Bandwidth9. "We are proud to have assembled a research team that is unmatched in the optical industry. Dr. Li's presence on our technical advisory board demonstrates to our customers and partners that we are committed to developing cutting-edge research to meet their system needs." Bandwidth9 Inc.
