HAYWARD, Calif. and TOKYO -- Glimmerglass will unveil a new version of its intelligent optical switches at FOE 2006 in Tokyo, Japan. The new version, Release 3.0, supports non-blocking, all-optical switching for as many as 320 single-mode fibers in a rack-mountable 8 RU chassis. Shipping in March 2006, the release offers new fiber monitoring configurations, a Japanese language web-based user interface, and enhanced security features. Additionally, the company will introduce a suite of new Customer Care Services. Glimmerglass will demonstrate its products at the FOE show in booth # 55-35, January 18-20, 2006.

Glimmerglass' Release 3.0 intelligent optical switches set several industry firsts. It supports the industry's first out-of-the-box fiber monitoring configurations -- making it easier than ever for network engineers to remotely connect third-party monitoring equipment to dozens or hundreds of optical fibers. Once connected, engineers can instantly and remotely monitor traffic flows, measure transmission quality and even test fiber continuity for networks of any signaling standard. Release 3.0's new features reliably monitor and protect live commercial networks from cut fibers or equipment outages by detecting problems and automatically switching in new simplex or duplex fiber paths to keep networks running.

Release 3.0 also offers Glimmerglass' user-friendly ClickFlow control interface in Japanese, compatible with all major browsers and operating systems. Security improvements include encrypted control interfaces via secure socket layer (SSL), encrypted remote software upgrades via secure shell (SSH) and a built-in firewall to filter unauthorized IP addresses to help defend against network attacks. Finally, Glimmerglass' Technical Assistance Center (TAC) will offer a suite of new Customer Care Services designed to ensure that customers achieve the maximum benefit from deploying the advanced features of Glimmerglass' products.

"We've designed Release 3.0 to make it more cost-effective to efficiently and securely monitor signals on optical fibers," said Glimmerglass Chief Executive Officer, Robert Lundy. "Additionally, our Japanese language user interface delivers unmatched visibility and control to engineers in Japan seeking to reliably manage DWDM and fiber-optic connections."
