BIRMINGHAM, U.K. -- Fujitsu Telecommunications Europe Ltd, the leading supplier of high performance telecommunications solutions, is strengthening its European presence with the appointment of a new European Operations General Manager - Eric Mitchell. The new position involves responsibility for France, Portugal and Northern Ireland, reinforcing Fujitsu's existing operations and strategic growth objectives in these territories.

Commenting on Fujitsu's expanding European market activities, General Manager of Fujitsu Telecommunications Europe, Andy Stevenson commented: "We have just completed one of our most successful trading years to date, consolidating our position as the UK's leading broadband supplier. As we move into our new financial year, we are focusing on delivering a new blend of converged IT and telecommunications solutions as part of a fully managed service proposition for our customers.

"The creation of a new European Operations role is part of this process. This market approach is further reflected by the extensive growth of our French business, involving the secondment of senior technical staff and an expansion of our Paris-based facility. France represents an important market for us, and we are supporting this proactively. Our Portuguese company has moved into a financially stronger position, with the introduction of our multi-service GeoStream Access Gateway solution into Portugal. Fujitsu's growing telecoms equipment repair refurbishment business in Northern Ireland is also doing well, providing an important and cost-effective service to a growing customer base, including BT and Lake Communications. We are confident that Eric will bring his expertise to bear as European Operations General Manager, providing an all-important strategic control element to our business interests in the coming year."
