Football and FiOS

5:45 PM -- By now you probably saw Verizon's plans to enhance the NFL Network for its broadband subscribers. (See Verizon Adds Football Features.) Subscribers can now watch football games broadcast on the NFL Network from anywhere in the world where there's access to a broadband connection. That in itself is a big deal in this football frenzied nation. There's also a few interactive features thrown in that aren't available on the standard broadcast form you'll find on your cable or satellite service. For example, you can chat live with other users, get real time stats and other coverage, and even watch the game from any camera angle you want.

Does that last part sound familiar? To the four of you who read one of my recent blogs it should. (See Interactive TV Wish List.) I came up with a list of interactive features that I'd want with my TV service and the ability to see a sporting event from any camera angle was one of them. So thank you Verizon for being a loyal reader and responding to my wishes! (Ha Ha...)

To be clear, these interactive features are only available when watching NFL Network games on the Internet. Verizon doesn't know if it'll ever be able to bring the features to FiOS TV because that's a decision that's "up to the NFL," according to a company spokesman.

It's also not clear whether or not you'll ever be able to replace the excruciating play by play of Bryant Gumbell with that of Howard Cosell, or anyone else in this world except Bryant, for the love of God...
