CHENNAI, India -- As part of its expanding commitment to the India market, Telcordia Technologies (www.telcordia.com) today announced that it has established an India entity, Telcordia Technologies India Private Limited, which will provide dedicated resources for mobile, fixed line, and cable operators throughout the country. The new company reflects Telcordia's belief that India has emerged as one of the world's major telecom markets.

"India already has more than 150 million telecom subscribers, and at its current growth rate, this country will be the world's second largest telecom market by 2010," said Dan Carroll, CEO of Telcordia. "We see immense potential in this region, and our new India entity is the latest example of our commitment to help this country's service providers capitalize on that potential. With a significant customer base already in place in India, Telcordia is ideally positioned to formally introduce itself as a key player for enabling telecom services."

Telcordia Technologies India Private Limited builds on the company's existing India customer base, which includes Tata, Idea Cellular, Reliance, the Department of Telecommunications and the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of India. The new entity is headquartered in Gurgaon, with program delivery offices in Hyderabad. It also includes Telcordia India Labs, a state-of-the-art facility based in Chennai. The office in Tidel Park will provide dedicated software resources, including development, for mobile, fixed line and cable operators throughout India.

Telcordia believes that to stand out from the competition and be profitable, India's operators must develop innovative applications, reduce overhead costs and foster partnerships with providers of other services to enable converged, bundled offerings. One recent example is Tata Teleservices, Ltd. In September 2005, the company selected the Telcordia Converged Applications Server, an advanced service delivery platform that supports enhanced, revenue-generating applications such as mobile games and ringtones. This platform gives Tata Teleservices the flexibility to create packages of these services and charge for them in innovative ways, such as two-for-one ring tone downloads, holiday calling offers and account sharing. As a result, Tata Teleservices now has the flexibility to create pricing plans and promotions that improve the value of its services in the eyes of consumers.

"With its proven global leadership and track record of helping service providers get maximum return on investment (ROI) from their networks, Telcordia will play a key role in our achieving India's target of 250 million telephone subscribers by 2007," said Thiru Dayanidhi Maran, Union Minister of Communications and Information Technology. "I am pleased to welcome Telcordia to India, and I am certain the company will succeed in its endeavor to develop Telcordia India Labs into a powerful, world-class software-development center."
