Company achieves #1 market share for media gateway shipments, according to Dittberner

MORRISVILLE, N.C. -- Continuing its leadership in next-generation switching, Tekelec (NASDAQ: TKLC) today announced it has shipped a record five million ports of its switching solutions to more than 225 operators around the globe. Tekelec's growth and leadership recently have been recognized with industry accolades, including being named the worldwide market-share leader for media gateway shipments by Dittberner Associates in its "Worldwide Q1 2005 NGN Shipments Analysis."

Dittberner also recognized Tekelec with the fourth-largest global market share in voice over packet switching equipment, with an 11 percent market share for all global shipments of Internet protocol (IP), asynchronous transfer mode (ATM), time division multiplexing (TDM) carrier-grade softswitch, media gateway and integrated media gateway-softswitch platforms. Tekelec shipped more than 1.5 million switching ports during the first quarter of 2005.

"Tekelec achieved the #1 position in the worldwide media gateway market, showed the largest market share growth in the North American space with more than a 46 percent share and further extended its #1 position in the wireless media gateway segment."
