ROCKVILLE, Md. -- Spirent Communications(TM) (NYSE:SPM) (LSE:SPT), a worldwide provider of integrated performance analysis and service assurance systems for next-generation network technologies, today announced the release of its SmartBits TeraMetrics XD Security Module. The product release introduces an unprecedented testing solution for measuring IPSec and Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) security performance from a single hardware module.

The performance of high-end IP Virtual Private Networks (VPN) and SSL devices can be measured only by testing large amounts of data over multiple sessions. With the new SmartBits TeraMetrics XD Security Module, IT managers can now discover how high connection rates and large amounts of encrypted traffic over multiple sessions can impact their networks.

The SmartBits XD Security Module uses specialized encryption hardware to accelerate IPSec and SSL performance testing. It runs on Spirent's SmartBits TeraMetrics XD platform and is driven by Spirent's market-leading TeraVPN and Avalanche SmartBits software applications. This combination of hardware and software allows users to test encryption performance at unprecedented data testing rates.

"The XD Security Module allows users to maximize their investment in the awarding-winning SmartBits TeraMetrics architecture," said Mark Fishburn, vice president of technical strategy for Spirent Communications. "Now, users can achieve stress rates in the 100s of IPSec Tunnels per second using the latest algorithms such as AES (Advanced Encryption Algorithm)."

In addition to testing security applications, Spirent's TeraMetrics XD enables system level testing of routing, Quality of Service and IPv6 on a single test platform. Spirent's XD Security Module includes the following features:

  • TeraMetrics XD support

  • IPSec and SSL support

  • Encryption algorithms: DES, 3DES, AES (128, 192, 256)

  • Authentication algorithms: HMAC-MD-5, HMAC-SHA-1

  • RPM storage space: 128 Meg Flash

  • IPSec Establishment rates: 100s of Tunnels per second
