HONOLULU -- Spirent Communications™, a wholly owned business group of Spirent plc (NYSE: SPM), today announced new software that enables network equipment manufacturers to emulate Generalized Multi-protocol Label Switching (GMPLS) networks to test device performance based on the Optical Internetworking Forum’s User Network Interface 1.0 signaling specification. The new software, running on Spirent’s Adtech AX/4000 Broadband Test System, can emulate a UNI client or UNI network device to test OIF UNI implementations. Network equipment manufacturers can use OIF UNI emulation to accelerate time-to-market by leveraging Spirent’s integrated control-plane/data-plane test platform during the development process and service providers can use it to help them roll out new services.OIF UNI 1.0 defines signaling protocols implemented by client and transport network equipment and enables clients to establish optical connections dynamically using GMPLS-compatible signaling procedures. “Spirent will continue to work with members of the OIF to accelerate deployment of optical networking technology and reduce carrier operational costs through primary testing, done by equipment manufacturers, and secondary testing in carriers’ interoperability labs,” said Ken Hensarling, senior director of product marketing for Spirent Communications’ Adtech Products. “Beyond our work with standards bodies and the OIF, Spirent is committed to supporting customers throughout the technology lifecycle, from the development lab, into manufacturing and evaluation, through deployment.” Spirent Communications
