BALTIMORE -- SafeNet (Nasdaq: SFNT), a leading global provider of Internet security technology that is the de facto standard in the VPN industry, today announced that NEC Corporation has selected SafeNet's SafeXcel-1741 VPN chip to secure "Fiber to the Home" (FTTH) Connections. NEC is deploying the chip in its IX2010 access router for corporate networks. "We are pleased to have NEC join the growing list of leading global corporations who are deploying our SecureIP Technology(TM) to a large number of SOHO users," said Anthony Caputo, Chairman, and CEO of SafeNet. "NEC is known for its high quality networking products. Our new SafeXcel 1741 product adds very strong, high quality security to NEC's products at a great value." NEC chose the SafeXcel-1741 based on price versus performance and support of key features necessary to implement security in its IX2010 router, used for FTTH connections. In Japan, Internet Service Providers have been installing fiber optic cables to the home versus broadband connections. The IX2010 router, which supports FTTH connections, allows speeds up to 100 Mbps. The IX2010 router is ideal for small and home offices where cost and productivity are both major factors in security decisions. SafeNet Inc. NEC Corp.
