TROIS-REIVIERES, QC -- Measurement Microsystems, Inc., provider of DSP engines for light spectrum measurements that enable instrument manufactures to replace expensive hardware functions with cost effective sophisticated software, today announced that the company has developed the world’s smallest, high performance, low cost , bit rate transparent Optical Performance Monitor (OPM) working at 50 and 100Ghz channel spacing for optical networks.

Measurement Microsystems OPM directly measures critical optical parameters (optical power, wavelength, and signal to noise ratio) in real time to perform signal health assessment. “The uniqueness of our OPM is that it does not need very high quality optics. Our DSP engine does most of the work, thus enabling us to provide a high performance solution at very competitive price”, commented Dr. Andrzej Barwicz, CEO of Measurement Microsystems, Inc.

According to Mr. Zbigniew Barwicz, Chief Commercial Officer of the company, “Measurement Microsystems OPM’s key advantage is that lambda, power, and OSNR measurements are performed in real time, with great accuracy in the C-Band or L-Band, at a cost well below $50 a channel”.

Applications for the OPM include power equalization in optical amplifiers, channel identification, wavelength provisioning, etc. “With the merging of optical transparent networks for communications, OPM is becoming a key component for fault management and providing QoS such that network operators can certify service level agreement with their clients.” said Ranjit Mand, VP of Marketing.
