SUNNYVALE, Calif. -- Juniper Networks, Inc., (NASDAQ: JNPR) today announced that its edge and core routing platforms have been incorporated into solutions selected as part of BT’s 21st Century Network (21CN) project. Lucent Technologies is set to integrate the Juniper Networks M- and T-series, including the TX Matrix platform, in the core backbone of the 21CN. In partnership with Siemens Juniper Networks E-, M- and T-series routers are set to be deployed in the metro edge of the 21CN.

BT has announced it has selected Lucent Technologies and Siemens among its preferred primary suppliers for 21CN and expects to conclude contractual agreements with named preferred suppliers over the summer.

BT, the U.K.’s leading telecommunications provider, has designed the 21CN to revolutionise the national communications infrastructure for more than 20 million residential, business and wholesale customers. On a global scale, BT’s 21CN is regarded as one of the most advanced and innovative deployments of an IP-based, converged data and telecommunications network to date. The solutions from Juniper Networks and its partners will provide BT with assured, high-performance network capacity to meet increased demand for diverse next-generation data, voice and video services.

“We’re extremely proud that our routing platforms were selected by BT and look forward to working with our strategic partners to deliver secure and assured networks for enabling IP voice, video and data services,” said Scott Kriens, chairman and CEO, Juniper Networks. “As members of the Infranet Initiative Council, BT, Siemens, Lucent, Juniper and many other companies all share a common Infranet vision that combines the reach of the Internet with the assured performance and security of a private network for a more enriched end user service experience.”
