SHENZHEN, China -- On May 21st, 2004, Telemar, the largest fixed network operator in Latin America, signed the acceptance report of Huawei long haul DWDM backbone. This indicates the successful operation of the world’s first long haul DWDM backbone based on ITU-T G.653 fiber, and that Huawei has become the unique vendor which can provide commercial technology for DWDM network based on G.653 fiber.

The G.653 fiber DWDM network spans about 1,000 km, covering major central cities across Brasil. This DWDM network is the primary transmission backbone of Telemar to guarantee the future services requirement. Huawei succeeds in realizing DWDM transmission on this G.653 fiber with the speed rate of 10 Gb/s per channel and the total channels of 16 in C band. This project sets many records based on G.653 fiber: the longest distance up to 1,000 km, the biggest capacity up to 160 Gb/s and the highest speed rate per channel of 10 Gb/s.
