BETHESDA, Md. -- According to a new report by DITTBERNER, the market for telecom network assurance, service assurance, and remote testing/monitoring software will grow at 5.6% compound annual growth rate (CAGR) from $2.8 billion in 2005 to $3.7 billion in 2010.

As service complexity increases thanks to the growth of IP content in mobile 3G and VoIP/IP Services markets, DITTBERNER predicts that telecoms will urgently need to QoS-monitor those services as they cross multiple network elements, technologies, and vendor domains.

The DITTBERNER study highlights the following:

  • Service Quality Management on the Rise - Traditional network assurance methods provide no direct measure of actual service quality as perceived by the end user. Now, companies such as Vallent and Telcordia are introducing advanced Service Quality Management (SQM) solutions that analyze services though superior service modeling and correlating feeds from performance management, signaling, and network probes.

  • More Strategic Performance Management - Network failures have become so costly in terms of lost revenue and customer dissatisfaction that operators are employing more performance management solutions to proactively monitor, predict, and provide corrective action before major network or service outages occur.

  • Wireless Remains the Key Market Driver - Thanks to the growing complexity and adoption of 3G services, wireless operators are the biggest buyers of assurance solutions, making up 52% of market revenues.

  • Innovations in SLAs, Radio Optimization, and Mobile Service Experience Analysis - The study finds the industry ripe with innovations that may soon blossom into new opportunities. For instance, new approaches are making headway in the SLA reporting sector; highly scalable methods of gathering and analyzing radio network data are gaining traction; and vendors are beginning to offer solutions that optimize the mobile data services experience.
