MUNICH -- Siemens Communications has been selected by COLT, a leading European provider of business communications, as partner for its internet protocol (IP) based telephony service. Launched today, COLT IP Voice is the industry’s first IP telephony service for European business, available across 13 countries. The fully-managed, network-based service is the first to offer predictable, flat rate pricing to businesses and cuts out capital expenditure as all the features of a sophisticated PBX are delivered by COLT’s extensive European network.

COLT IP Voice meets business demand for a voice service that combines the much proclaimed benefits of VoIP technology with simple, predictable pricing and guaranteed quality of service. It is based on Siemens’ IP platform Surpass. Benefits include:

  • • Reduced cost of ownership. COLT IP Voice can reduce total cost of ownership by approximately 20%. It offers all local, regional, national and international calls for a flat rate per-user per-month fee of €24.50 and cuts out capital expenditure as no PBX is required and handsets and features are covered by an additional monthly user fee of €20.

    • Greater flexibility and functionality for the user. It allows users to take a single number with them wherever they go – whether at the office, hot-desking or working remotely, and benefit from co-ordinated messaging services and advanced conferencing facilities.

    • Unique management tools allow self-administration and moves, additions and changes to be made simply and easily, either via a web interface or a console on the customer’s premises.

“IP telephony is the next big development in our portfolio of innovative services that focus on helping our business customers fulfill their business potential simply and affordably,” explained Andy Irvine, Director, Voice, COLT. “By integrating Siemens technology directly into our network, we can offer businesses all the functionality of IP telephony, backed up by carrier-grade reliability associated with switched voice services.”

“We are looking forward to helping COLT with our extensive experience in the communication-over-IP market”, said Christian Unterberger, President of Fixed Networks at Siemens Communications. ”Our softswitches and the related technology will enable COLT to bring to market exciting new features such as portal-based click-to-call and subscriber self-administration capabilities."

COLT has integrated the Siemens Surpass hiE 9200 and the Media Gateway Surpass hiG 1600. Surpass hiE 9200 offers all features on a future-proof and modular platform, enabling easy and fast implementation of new services and features with multi-country availability. The platform offers the full range of CLASS 5 subscriber features, including IP CENTREX, CLIP, CLIR, Call Forwarding, Call Waiting, Call Rejection, or Call Completion on Busy. Surpass hiE 9200 is designed for carrier-grade reliability. It provides 99.999 % or even better availability.
