COLUMBIA, Md. -- CODEON Corporation, a leading designer and manufacturer of state-of-the-art modulators, optical transponder components and modules for the fiber optic telecommunications industry, today announced the availability of the Mach-10 Intensity Modulator with an integrated Variable Optical Attenuator (VOA). The integration of the VOA represents the first in a series of products from CODEON that will provide value-added integration of discrete optical components. The footprint of today's optical transport systems is getting smaller and smaller. By integrating the VOA in the Mach-10 modulator, CODEON is enabling system OEMs to minimize transponder board space ultimately helping to achieve these small form-factors. Using CODEON's 10 Gb/s Intensity Modulator with VOA at strategic points in a network, system providers will have the flexibility to variably control the level of optical attenuation and thus implement dynamic channel equalization, a critical requirement in amplified transport systems.Commenting on today's announcement was Rudi Winkelmann, Vice President of Hardware Design for optical networks at Siemens, "The Mach-10 sample with the integrated Variable Optical Attenuator performed very well in our tests and successfully passed all of the test requirements. It should integrate well in our 10 Gb/s equipment. These successful results further demonstrate CODEON's impressive expertise in Lithium Niobate." Codeon Corp.
