China Launches FTTH Forum

Industry group aims to promote fiber to the home/premises in China

GUANGZHOU, China -- China Forum of FTTH announced its establishment. The Forum is a non-profit organization sponsored by Guangdong Optical Valley, which aims to promote fiber optics industry in Guangdong Province and GWBN, a top broadband carrier in China.

China Fiber Optics on Line, Qianjia.com, Keyoptics, YOFC and Aoke Cable, Photon Technology, Nanfang Communication, FOCI, FirstMile, Feiteng, Fiberhome, Salira, Optical Solutions, and Shenzhen University are co-sponsors of the Forum.

Representatives of the Forum come from Alcatel, Fujitsu, Fujikura, Huawei, ZTE, Greenway, Flexlight, Corning, 3M, Sumitomo, JDSU, O-net, China telecom, China Unicom, China Mobile, Tsinghua University, South China University of Technology, and Jinan University.

The goal of the Forum is to encourage industry alignment and work out solution to the problems of the FTTH development in China.

FTTH/FTTP has been a hot spot in China in the year of 2003. China Netcom announced in September 2003 that they would use FTTH in 2008 Beijing Olympic Game. Wuhan-based China Optic Valley also announced their plan to use FTTH starting from 2004. Guangzhou Municipal Info-communication Piloting Panel expressed to push FTTH experiments in Guangzhou as well.
