LONDON -- BT today announced the launch of BT IP Converge, a converged network offering that provides customers with a fully configured yet adaptable solution that allows them to take a phased approach to their migration to a converged IP network. Available to organisations of all sizes, the offering also provides business customers with a simple migration path to more advanced IP network services.

An evolution of BT’s existing convergence portfolio, BT IP Converge provides customers with complete flexibility in migrating to a converged IP network. Within the one integrated service, customers are able to implement a core Wide Area Network (WAN) service, and then have the option of adding additional elements and services such as Local Area Network (LAN) and IP Telephony (IPT) with complete ease and flexibility.

IP Converge is an end-to-end managed service, so it relieves organisations of the burden of day-to-day management of their network. This makes it ideal for enterprises without a large internal IT department, as well as companies that wish to focus resource on more core IT issues.

For a mid-sized company with multiple sites, IP Converge also delivers a secure network for both voice and data at a lower cost than equivalent ‘DIY’ options. It offers businesses the potential to enjoy significant cost savings on inter-site voice and data traffic communications.

Tom Craig, President, IP Networking, BT Global Services, said “BT’s customers are becoming increasingly interested in simpler and more strategic approaches to adopting convergence. BT IP Converge provides these customers with the cost and reliability benefits of implementing a pre-configured yet adaptable solution, with the added flexibility of allowing a phased approach to IP migration.

“BT IP Converge enables customers to select the features and services that will best suit their business needs, when they need them, with the simplicity and convenience of having one supplier and one contract,” he said.

As an indication of just how flexible BT IP Converge can be, it offers eleven LAN packages for customers or a customised solution depending on their specific requirements, and IPT options can be included with or without the LAN. Whilst many service and management options are included in the price, a wide range of additional services and features from the BT portfolio are also available, including further enhancements to reporting, service management and project management, as well as remote access security.

The core Multi Protocol Label Switching (MPLS) WAN service offers organisations a wide range of access types and bandwidths, with leased line access available from 64kbps to 155Mbps and Flex bandwidth ranges of up to 2Mbps, 10Mbps, 100Mbps and up to Gigabit. Asynchronous Digital Subscriber Line (ADSL) access is also available at 256kbps through to 2Mbps in both contended or uncontended variants. The solution offers BT’s industry-leading Differentiated Services Code Point Six Class of Service (DSCP 6 CoS) service, which can help guarantee the performance of applications by prioritising communications.
