Alcatel to Supply NetCologne

PARIS -- Alcatel, (Paris: CGEP.PA and NYSE: ALA), the worldleader in broadband access, today announced it has signed an agreement withGerman city carrier NetCologne to supply digital subscriber line (DSL)equipment for broadband access and voice over DSL (VoDSL) services. In thecore of the network, NetCologne will install nine Alcatel 7670 RoutingSwitch Platforms (RSP) to aggregate DSL traffic over asynchronous transfermode (ATM), guaranteeing quality of service vital to the carrier’sdifferentiated services portfolio. The agreement also includes customerpremise equipment from Alcatel’s SpeedTouch range of DSL modems.NetCologne will use Alcatel’s fully integrated voice over DSL gateway onAlcatel’s 7300 Advanced Services Access Multiplexer (ASAM), the world’smost widely deployed broadband access platform, to offer additional voicelines over the same copper telephone wire used by subscribers for Internetaccess. NetCologne will control the entire network via the Alcatel 5620Network Manager. The carrier plans to deliver fast Internet and multiplevoice lines to subscribers by August 2001 and plans to use Alcatel’s DSLtechnology to deliver further services in due course."Alcatel’s solution allows NetCologne to address both the residential andbusiness markets.
