PARIS -- Alcatel (Paris: CGEP.PA and NYSE: ALA) today announced the launch of the 5750 Subscriber Services Controller (SSC), a comprehensive policy management solution that will enable service providers to centrally manage their subscribers and services. The Alcatel 5750 SSC represents a generational leap in triple play service delivery and policy-based management control, unlocking the full revenue potential of triple play by offering an unprecedented user-driven environment.

"With the advent of triple play, service providers are deploying new network alternatives to handle the increased scaling and reliability requirements needed to deliver video over IP with TV-like quality," said Gauri Pavate, Principal Analyst at Gartner. "These new architectures are cost-effective but they require high velocity, dynamic and user-driven policy control throughout the network. To continue keeping costs low, these changes must be centrally managed – and, if you do it right -- you can create an environment that makes user-centric, personalized IPTV a reality."

The Alcatel 5750 SSC is unparalleled in its ability to meet these criteria, providing centralized control, scale, and performance as it simultaneously manages operational expenditures and response times. The 5750 SSC can scale to greater than 50 million subscribers and handle thousands of transactions per second. Policy-based service definitions enable centralized service creation and customization, and a customer portal gives users dynamic self-service options with zero-touch, real-time activation. As a result, providers have an infinite range of service options to target niche markets, and can generate revenue from ad hoc increases in bandwidth, essentially improving the marketability of their services.

"Ultimately, the success of home entertainment relies on providers giving users the service they want, when they want it, and without having to do a lot to get it. That's why more service providers are turning to Alcatel for solutions that enable user-centric triple play services, based on our industry-leading equipment, management and service integration expertise," said Basil Alwan, president of Alcatel's IP activities. "Alcatel is reinforcing its triple play leadership by providing unprecedented user-centricity, choice and convenience."
