MAINZ, Germany -- Cube Optics (CUBO), German developer and manufacturer of miniaturized fiber-optic components, reports the successful market introduction of its LX4 multiplexers. Those multiplexers and demultiplexers have been especially designed according to the 10Gbase-LX4 standard and to facilitate the manufacturing of low-cost XENPAK modules. The LX4 multiplexers not only solve the tough space constraints of those transponders but also enable manufacturers to make the next step to shrink the modules from the XENPAK MSA to the even smaller X2 / XPAK standards. The single mode multiplexer and multi mode demultiplexer operate at the typical LX4 center wavelengths with a spacing of 24.5 nm. They are available as separate components or may be combined to a mux and demux in one housing.

"Since the first presentation at ECOC'03 we have had a great interest in our LX4 modules, as we could shrink the size of our miniaturized components even more to fit in the XENPAK package. But maybe more important, our Polymer Optical Bench (POB) technology is the only technology, that enables a low-cost, automated manufacturing of high volumes" said CUBO's CEO Thomas Paatzsch.

The new LX4 multiplexer complements CUBO'S CWDM product family, which includes Add-Drops, 4-channel and 8-channel CWDMs. Those also provide additional functions, such as tap ports, upgrade channels or bandsplitters to be integrated on a modular basis. Designed to work with uncooled lasers having wavelengths spaced 20 nm apart, the modules' performance is independent of protocols and data rates. These cost-effective devices feature standard market specifications. Furthermore CUBO's unique packaging technology has demonstrated its excellent stability under Telcordia conditions.
