Corning Announces New Fiber

CORNING, N.Y. -- Corning Incorporated (NYSE:GLW - news) today unveiled SMF-28e(TM) fiber, an extension of its single-mode fiber product line. SMF-28e fiber, designed with low attenuation at the water peak, offers network designers the ability to create high-capacity, low-cost networks. This product is intended for unamplified systems and brings new functionality to service providers, such as ILECs, CLECs, CATV and utilities. Reduced attenuation in the water peak region opens a new operating window, allowing the transmission of more information over the same number of fibers. Corning SMF-28e fiber is currently available worldwide.

"Just as our SMF-28 fiber continues to set the standard for value and performance in fiber technology, we expect that SMF-28e fiber will soon become the fiber of choice for system installers seeking a low water peak solution," said John Igel, product line manager, single-mode fiber. Corning introduced SMF-28 fiber, the world's most extensively deployed fiber, in 1986.
