PETALUMA, Calif. -- Calix today announced that TDS Telecom, the seventh largest independent U.S. telco, has deployed the Calix C7 multiservice access platform (MSAP) to deliver FTTP and high-speed copper services to business and residential subscribers. Already widely deployed within TDS Metrocom, the Calix C7 will now allow TDS Telecom to support the full range of emerging access media -- FTTP, ADSL2+, and Gigabit Ethernet -- while continuing to support legacy telco services such as POTS, specials, DS1, and DS3. With the packet-based Calix C7, TDS is able to deliver a wide array of voice, data, and video services to business and residential subscribers over its 1.1 million access line footprint covering 30 states.

"Calix access systems are extremely versatile and provide us with a great deal of capacity," stated Lisa Cvengros, vice president of Network Services and chief technology officer of the Madison, Wisconsin-based TDS Telecom. "Being able to deliver services to out-of-region CLEC and in-region ILEC customers with a single packet-based platform also provides us with operational efficiencies and accelerates the speed with which we can roll out new broadband services."

TDS has deployed the Calix C7 in CLEC applications to provide Fast Ethernet, DS1, and DS3 services to businesses and communications-intensive residential customers in five states. The market-leading Calix C7 can be deployed in central offices, remote terminals, and collocations with equal ease. Especially in space-challenged MDU/MTU collocations, the ultra-compact Calix C7 can be quickly installed without sacrificing connection density or capacity. Today's announcement highlights an expanded relationship with TDS to use the Calix C7 platform for ILEC customers looking for high-value broadband services.

According to Teresa Morris, Calix vice president of national sales, "TDS typifies forward-looking telcos that are aggressively delivering new services throughout their operating territories. With support for active and passive fiber, legacy and broadband copper, and OC-48 transport, the Calix C7 is the ideal platform for supporting IPTV and other high-value services that carriers need to compete effectively against cable operators."
