MINNEAPOLIS -- Optical Solutions Inc., the leader in fiber-optic communications systems for the local access market, today announced it has been awarded a fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) contract from NTS Communications, Inc., a competitive local exchange carrier (CLEC) and one of the largest privately owned long distance companies in the nation. Founded in 1981 as a reseller of long distance services, NTS now serves customers in Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, New Mexico, Nevada, Colorado and Arizona.

In the initial phases of the NTS deployment, residents in large housing developments in and around Lubbock, Texas will receive broadband services from Optical Solutions' FiberPath 400, which delivers multi-line telephony service, entertainment video service, and high speed data over one fiber-optic connection to the home. NTS Communications is on a fast track to install and turn up broadband service to these communities, and expects to turn up the service in July to coincide with the local Parade of Homes event in Lubbock. In addition to these greenfield FTTH deployments, NTS plans to overbuild several neighboring communities with fiber-to-the-home technology.

"FiberPath 400 is becoming known as the broadband access standard in the industry," said Mitch Elliot, vice president of business development at NTS Communications. "New home developers in the Lubbock area will now be able to provide homeowners with fiber-to-the-home broadband connections which can deliver data speeds more than 200 times faster than conventional dial up connections, and 50 times faster than what is available from local cable companies."

"As many progressive service providers like NTS Communications are discovering, a FTTH network offers revenue rich service capabilities, technology longevity, and low cost of ownership," said Darryl Ponder, CEO at Optical Solutions. "You are providing the connected families in those communities with one number to call, one bill, and the ability to access the best broadband services available anywhere."
