Windstream Deploys Hatteras

Fifth-largest US carrier is using Hatteras gear for Ethernet-over-copper and Ethernet-over-TDM

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. -– Hatteras Networks, the global leaderin multi-service Ethernet solutions for enterprise access services and next-generation mobilebackhaul, announced today that Windstream Corporation (Nasdaq: WIN), the fifth-largest carrierin the United States, has standardized upon and deployed a Hatteras Networks solution forEthernet service delivery over both copper (EoC) and Time Division Multiplexing (EoTDM)infrastructure. The unified Hatteras Networks solution, the HN6100, delivering up to 40 Gbps ofbandwidth, enables delivery of any Ethernet service over any media.

Windstream's portfolio of next-generation Ethernet Business Services, including advancedInternet access and virtual private networks (VPNs), is available in more than 1,000 Windstreamexchanges covering approximately 98 percent of its ILEC territory.The Hatteras Networks solution supports all MEF service models, extending Windstream theflexibility to swiftly roll out virtually any service including Windstream’s business data services,transparent local area networks (LANs), wholesale offerings and voice over Internet Protocol(VoIP). At the heart of Hatteras Networks’ unified solution is the award-winning HN6100, theindustry’s first modular, multi-service platform designed to enable rollout of any carrier Ethernetservice, over any media, via any port or slot, from one compact, 40 Gbps, two-rack-unit, ultradensechassis. "Zero-touch" Hatteras Networks customer premise equipment (CPE), meanwhile,allows Windstream to deploy and update services more quickly with reduced opportunities fortechnician errors.

  • HN400 series of Ethernet over Copper CPE;

  • HN500 series of demarcation devices for Ethernet over TDM and Ethernet overNxT1/E1, and

  • HN239 Repeaters, enabling interconnection of enterprises or mobile towers over longerloop lengths.
