SAN MATEO, Calif. -- Vyatta today announced the availability of a packaged hardware and software routing solution that includes Vyatta’s Open Flexible Router (OFR) running on a Dell PowerEdge 850. A reliable and easy to deploy mid-range access router, the Vyatta offering delivers superior price/performance in a 1U rack-mounted package designed to make open source networking more accessible to users.
“For too long the networking giants have perpetuated the myth that only expensive, proprietary hardware was sufficient to run networks. As a result, customers have been prevented from leveraging the economic advantages of industry standard hardware,” said Kelly Herrell, CEO of Vyatta. “Vyatta’s offering, pre-integrating the Open Flexible Router software with Dell’s hardware, shatters the myth that standard hardware isn’t up to the job and provides small and mid-sized business customers the cost-effective solution they have been waiting for. Customers can now take advantage of the superior economics and flexibility of an open-source solution coupled with the ease of deployment and trust of Dell’s hardware.”
The combination of Vyatta’s OFR and the Dell PowerEdge 850 performs exceptionally well, delivering two gigabits of throughput at a fraction of the cost of comparable proprietary products. In addition to excellent price/performance, users regain control over their network infrastructure by virtue of Vyatta’s open architecture and flexible support model.
“I want a dependable, feature-rich routing solution, but as a growing business I need to keep a close eye on cost and resources. I don’t want to pay for a bunch of unnecessary features, and I don’t want to waste limited data center rack space on an under-utilized piece of hardware,” said Charles Stewart, VP of Operations with Adify. “Vyatta’s open software model allows me to get the features I need, while leveraging the advantages of industry-standard hardware that I can run other network centric services and applications on. I like being able to buy a pre-integrated solution directly from Vyatta – the features and flexibility I need, in a familiar and trustworthy hardware package that I can drop right into my network.”
