Sort of like the other shoe dropping, the other Vivace Networks founder, Mitri Halabi, has left Tellabs Inc. (Nasdaq: TLAB; Frankfurt: BTLA).
Halabi, Tellabs' vice president of product development, resigned his post on March 17 "to pursue other activities," a Tellabs spokesman says. Halabi himself did not return a request for comment.
Halabi's replacement is Brian Gawick, who becomes VP of strategy and product development for Tellabs' U.S. advanced data product groups. Gawick joined Tellabs out of Fujitsu Network Communications Inc. last year and was initially responsible for Tellabs' FTTP product lines. (See Notes From Naperville.)
Vivace was a multiservice edge-router company acquired by Tellabs in 2003. Vivace founder, chairman, and CEO Ken Koenig became Tellabs' senior VP of advanced data products, but he left within the year, as did Mike Kazban, Vivace's vice president of marketing.(See Tellabs Snags Vivace for $135M and Headcount: Family Time.)
By most accounts, the Vivace product is doing well for Tellabs, despite the loss of a Cable and Wireless plc (NYSE: CWP) contract. The company is reportedly planning on using the 8800 as part of its GPON strategy. (See Tellabs, C&W Part Ways and Tellabs Edges Into GPON.)
