LAKE OSWEGO, Ore. -- Tut Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ:TUTS) , an industry leader enabling the delivery of next-generation data and video services over broadband networks, today announced that it will showcase its MPEG-4 AVC High Definition (HD) compression capabilities for the first time at the annual National Association of Broadcasters (NAB 2006) convention in Las Vegas on April 24-27 (Booth #SL635).
MPEG-4 AVC HD compression is critical for IPTV service providers seeking to deliver pristine quality HDTV over copper access networks. While today's MPEG-2 HDTV is compressed to approximately 19 Mbps, with MPEG-4 AVC compression in Tut Systems' carrier-class Astria(R) content processor product line, service providers will see bandwidths below 10 Mbps. This is a critical threshold for ensuring that IPTV service providers can deliver HDTV over advanced DSL networks that are constrained to bandwidths below 15 Mbps to accommodate the HD service along with voice, data and other TV channels.

In addition, Tut Systems will highlight the latest in MPEG-4 AVC standard definition compression technology including encoding and transcoding from MPEG-2, as well as IP forward error correction for the delivery of flawless video over IP networks. The highly scalable Astria VSP will showcase digital simulcast applications for the conversion of IP video to digital and analog RF for delivery over FTTx and coaxial cable networks.
