HOUSTON and MINNEAPOLIS -- Quanta Services, Inc. (NYSE: PWR) has joined the Muni Consortium, a select group of telecommunications companies and consultants dedicated to helping municipalities and utilities successfully deploy broadband networks via passive optical networking (PON) technology. The consortium gives these entities a place to go for help with questions about regulatory issues, finance, engineering, construction, project management, broadband content, equipment and other areas of municipal broadband deployment.
"Quanta works closely with various municipalities and utilities to help them evaluate FTTP networks as they consider building networks that deliver telephony, high-speed Internet access and interactive, two-way video-based services," said Luke Spalj, president of Quanta's telecommunications and broadband cable operations. "Through this consortium, we team with other industry leaders to quickly and efficiently meet the needs of our customers."
Quanta Services' telecommunications network services include fiber optic and copper outside plant, inside plant/central office and wireless capabilities. Whether overhead or underground from engineering, route selection and right-of-way acquisitions to installation, testing and product positioning, Quanta's scope of telecommunications network services covers projects from start to finish.
"We very pleased to welcome Quanta Services on board as a new member of the Muni Consortium," said Darryl Ponder, CEO at Optical Solutions. "Quanta is a leading provider in the municipality market space, ensuring municipalities and utilities across North America have the industry's best resources available for their broadband deployments."
