Managed, small-form-factor, pluggable transceivers support SFF-8472 standard, enabling physical-layer visibility
March 5, 2002
BOULDER, Colo. -- Picolight Inc. today announced support for the SFF-8427 diagnostic capability standard in a 2 Gigabit per second (Gbps) Small Form Factor Pluggable (SFP) transceiver. The new PL-XPL-00-S23 transceiver is the latest offering in Picolight's Accelar family of short wavelength (850 nm) serial optical transceivers, and provides equipment manufacturers and system administrators with the enhanced capability to view the performance of an installed optical network's physical-layer (PHY). The embedded diagnostic capability permits proactive monitoring and management of ports and links to pre-empt potential problems, which, in turn, improves network stability in mission-critical applications. "Physical-layer network integrity is critical, particularly to the storage networking industry," said Mark Hillesheim, product manager with Picolight. "SFP-management capabilities enable users to increase system reliability and `up' time through preventative maintenance." Picolight Inc.
