Broadband remote access server software module for its ST200 Service Edge Router
May 12, 2003
PITTSBURGH -- Laurel Networks, Inc., the first provider of high-performance service edge routers, today set a new standard in broadband service delivery with the introduction of the Broadband Remote Access Server (BRAS) software module for the award-winning ST200(TM) Service Edge Router. The ST200 is the first BRAS with Service Separation and Blending (SSB), a key innovation required to deliver advanced broadband services over a single customer connection. SSB includes the high bandwidth-per-subscriber, advanced QoS and integrated routing and switching required for multimedia broadband service delivery.
SSB moves broadband providers from basic high-speed Internet access to a complete portfolio of business and consumer broadband services including IP VPNs, packet voice, video-on-demand, broadcast TV, gaming and music. SSB uses sophisticated QoS to blend packets from multiple services downstream over a single broadband customer connection, while intelligent switching and routing separate upstream traffic to different content or service providers.
"Laurel is delivering on the promise of next-generation broadband services today. By integrating SSB into the ST200 system silicon, we have broken through the architectural challenges of multimedia broadband service delivery," said Steve Vogelsang, Laurel Networks co-founder and vice president of marketing. "Broadband providers can now offer all types of multimedia-intensive, high-bandwidth services by integrating the ST200 into their existing infrastructure."
