RESTON, Va. -- Beyond the Network (BtN), a wholly owned subsidiary of PCCW, has completed the MPLS upgrade of its global IP network, providing enhanced backbone engineering capabilities, unparalleled flexibility and new service plans based on different quality of service (QoS) to customers throughout the world. This significant advancement is the result of BtN's seamless and successful integration of its strategic asset acquisitions. "BtN is committed to implementing the latest IP technology to ensure that we offer the most reliable, scalable and cost effective solutions to our customers," said Bret Rehart, chief network officer. "With this MPLS upgrade, BtN is better able to respond to emerging data application requirements and offer true 'One-Stop-Shop' global IP connectivity." Unlike traditional legacy networks, where the "one port - one product" rule prevails, the BtN Multi-Service IP Port provides carriers, ISPs, ICPs and enterprise customers with the ability to access multiple products ranging from Internet access, Voice-over IP (VoIP), IP VPN and Virtual Private Line through a single port. This allows customers to optimize their investment to expand their service portfolio and competitiveness within their market. "We enable PTTs as well as emerging carriers to offer international data connectivity in their space, without having to populate the globe with PoPs. BtN is among the first to offer global MPLS enabled VPNs through a network of bilateral arrangements. Each participating carrier is not just a customer, but becomes an integral part of this network," said Braham Singh, chief operating officer. Through its 34 core and access nodes, as well as partner network interconnects, BtN is well positioned to deliver the highest quality suite of differentiated IP services in every major market in the world.
