BT is making its optical network capability available to UK companieswith the launch of a new portfolio of optical services to meet the growingdemand from big business for high-capacity data transfer. The newWavestream portfolio gives customers access to the largest optical networkin the UK and brings together BT's existing optical products with anexpanding range of new services. This is expected to deliver around £57m ayear of new revenue to BT Group by the end of 2004/5.
BT's new optical portfolio includes:
Wavestream Connect - which enables companies to simply connect twolocations in the same metropolitan area, such as two data centres toprovide real-time back-up,
Wavestream Metro Ring - a managed private network service forconnecting up to six locations,
Wavestream Modular - a 'do-it-yourself' optical tool-kit providinglarger customers with everything they need to employ an optical network ontheir own site.In the second half of the year BT will also launch Wavestream ConnectNational, which will make it easy to connect data centres in distantlocations across the UK.
