Alcatel Wins Contract for Optical Backbone

Deutsche Telekom AG has awarded Alcatel a contract for the development of the first phase of its optical "Communication Highway". The total investment for this new optical network amounts several hundred million EURO. The contract is part of a long-term framework agreement between Deutsche Telekom AG and Alcatel and offers Deutsche Telekom state-of-the-art SDH (Synchronous Digital Hierarchy) and DWDM (Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing) technology. This technology,part of Alcatel's OptinexTM product family, allows already today transmission rates of more than 200 Gbit/s.
