5:50 PM -- Today on Contentinople, founder and publisher Scott Raynovich breaks down the latest Yahoo letter:

  • In the letter, chairman of the board Roy Bostock and co-founder and CEO Jerry Yang attempt to defend the company's Google deal and talk shareholders out of voting in Carl Icahn's gang. Also, more details emerge about Microsoft's final "search only" proposal.

  • Integrated Media Measurement Inc. released a study that found advertising on TV and another medium is more effective than advertising just on TV. This is good news for the fledgling mobile advertising industry, says Heavy Reading analyst Adi Kishore.

  • Blip.tv and Edgecast released a study touting the advantages of using a content delivery network over serving from origin. One of the main advantages: "You theoretically only have one POP [point of presence], so the experience for someone in California is not going to be as good as in New York," says Blip CEO Mike Hudack.

  • Online video production company and all-around alliteration aficionado Next New Networks announced a trio of distribution deals with Yahoo, Hulu, and Metacafe.
