Vonage Inks VoIP Retail Deal with CompUSA
Vonage just keeps marching along. The voice-over-IP (VoIP) unveiled another big retail distribution deal today, inking a pact with CompUSA. Under the deal, Vonage will pitch its service in all of CompUSA's 200-plus U.S. stores, as well as on the chain's Web site. High-speed Internet subscribers with standard telephones can sign up for Vonage's broadband phone service by buying one of the two starter kits available at CompUSA outlets. Both starter kits feature Linksys devices, which are competitively priced and offer a $50 mail-in rebate 90 days after the service has been activated. Vonage, which jumped into the VoIP market before most cable operators, boasts more than 350,000 customers and is addng more than 30,000 lines per month. With the CompUSA deal, it now has its service in more than 8,000 retail outlets throughout North America.
