MANCHESTER, U.K. -- Power X Networks announces the commercial availability of its TeraChannel Product Family (imagery available at www.newscast.co.uk), which offers breakthrough performance for next generation optical networking switch and router systems. The TeraChannel family of products consists of a three chip IC solution, and complementary hardware and software development platforms designed to enable rapid implementation and deployment of the chipset. The TeraChannel Star( chipset family, being rolled out over the next two months, includes a crossbar fabric chip, a global arbiter chip, and a line-card port interface chip supporting multiple Quality of Service (QoS) channels. Optimised for OC-48 data rates, the 'sweet-spot' of the optical networking switch market, the TeraChannel chip set will allow a 16 blade chassis based system to pass data at 80Gbit/s full duplex line rate with 97% efficiency under full load conditions at wire speed, regardless of traffic protocol. This performance is delivered using only three fabric chips, indicating the level of TeraChannel's functional integration is some five to ten times that of alternate approaches. Power X Networks Inc.
