A Nokia sale of mobile, especially to the US, would be nuts
Nokia's hiring of Intel's Justin Hotard to be its new CEO has set tongues wagging again about a mobile exit, but it would look counterintuitive and inadvisable.
Eye strain the way of the future as PocketJoy brings porn to handhelds
November 7, 2002
It's an open secret that pornography is expected to be a multimillion-dollar content business on third-generation wireless networks (see MultiMedia Messaging Will Be Slow to Grow, Says Report). But it's not something that most carriers like to talk about.
However, VTX Inc. is going all out to increase the visibility of this much-maligned sector of the market, with the launch of its PocketJoy.com Website [ed note: we didn't provide a link because we didn't want to offend those sensitive readers who might click on it]. VTX, based in Las Vegas -- the Family Entertainment Capital of... well, Nevada, at least -- claims the Website is the first of its kind that can render images in HTML for smartphones and PDAs and in WML for WAP phones.
"The dirty little secret that no one talks about is that adult content has been at the center of nearly every information technology leap for the past hundred years," says Brian Michaels, VP of VTX, in a statement. "As soon as there was celluloid film, there were blue movies. A short time after VCR was released, the majority of American homes had adult videos. Now nearly three quarters of all Internet surfers look at adult sites. What does that tell you about the future of 3G phones?"
Beats us! It's still baffling that people might really want to look at nekkid peoples on a two-inch screen. Different strokes, eh?
Anyway, we had to laugh at the PocketJoy.com slogan: "We are bringing porn to the palm of your hand, what you do with your other hand is your business." You'll go blind, you know, you will…
