LONDON -- Nortel Networks(NYSE:NT)(TSE:NT.) has designed and built a terabit-capable opticalbackbone network for UK operator Kingston Communications, providing ahigh-capacity foundation capable of carrying Gigabit Ethernet andother local broadband services. This backbone, which has already begun carrying live traffic, isbased on Nortel Networks 10 gigabits-per-second DWDM (dense-wavelengthdivision multiplexing) optical solution, including Nortel NetworksOPTera Long Haul 1600 Optical Line System and OPTera Connect DXoptical switch. "When we looked at the possible suppliers for our new network, weneeded to ensure we had the most efficient, most reliable and fastestequipment available to secure our future success," said Ian McKenzie,chief operating officer, Kingston Communications.
