3:00 PM -- So how many homes will SBC's Project Lightspeed reach anyway?

Some confusion set in recently as Light Reading reported the carrier would pass 19 million homes with its new, updated access network by 2007. A bit later, in public statements made by SBC, the number came back down to 18 million.

Which figure was right?

It turns out they both were. "We did say 19 million earlier this month (including in the DSL Forum presentation)," writes an SBC spokesman in response to a question from Light Reading. "That figure was based on network data that was newly available at the time. We've since updated that data, and will continue to use our original number of 18 million homes passed by the end of 2007."
