Fujikura Europe introduces its new Fast-SC connector, offering fiber termination in less than a minute
September 6, 2004
LONDON -- The brand new FAST-SC connector is a rising star in the optical fibre portfolio of products for Fujikura Europe. With a fibre connectorisation time of less than a minute, including preparation, this field installable connector makes other termination methods appear cumbersome and expensive.
Apart from the standard fibre preparation tools, no other specialised tools are required in conjunction with the FAST-SC. The product has been factory-polished, eliminating the need for any polishing materials, thereby enabling the preparation and termination of two optical fibres in a fraction of the time of other conventional methods.
The FAST-SC uses V-groove mechanical splice principals and so therefore, the use of epoxies are not required. The average insertion loss for single mode is just 0.2dB, with a return loss of 55dB, whilst for multi-mode GI62.5, the average insertion loss is 0.03dB (0.07dB for multi-mode GI50.0).
“This product really is a breakthrough, not only for Fujikura, but also for our customers,” explains Brian Leonard, product manager at Fujikura Europe. “It’s far less complicated, messy and time-consuming than other termination methods on the market and of course it takes up hardly any room in an engineer’s toolkit.”
