ORLANDO, Fla. -- EPIK Communications (EPIK), the telecommunications subsidiary of Florida East Coast Industries, Inc. (NYSE:FLA) today announced a new fiber swap agreement that greatly accelerates its network expansion. Through an agreement with St. Louis-based Digital Teleport, Inc. (DTI), EPIK added 2,922 route miles of dark fiber spanning from Atlanta to Denver and reaching customers in 10 additional major metropolitan areas, including Chicago, Indianapolis, St. Louis, Kansas City, Memphis and Nashville. Under the agreement, EPIK and DTI will each provide reciprocal collocation rights.
"The DTI relationship is an important step as we continue to expand our geographic reach. This is a critical milestone in creating new service opportunities for our customers and new value for our shareholders," said John McClellan, EPIK's president. "We will continue to seek strategic alliances with other carriers. The best is yet to come."
