CORNING, N.Y. -- Corning Incorporated (NYSE:GLW), a world-leading supplier of optical fiber, unveils today its latest optical fiber innovation, a 10 Gigabit Ethernet-capable multimode fiber. Corning(R) InfiniCor(R) SX+ fiber enables the high bandwidth performance of standard single-mode fiber for premises applications while achieving a lower overall systems cost. InfiniCor SX+ fiber, designed to provide an upgrade path to conquer bandwidth-intensive applications such as streaming audio and video and medical imaging, is a 50-micron multimode fiber enabling 10 Gb/s serial transmission over 300 meters in the 850 nm wavelength window. It is designed for use with low-cost, 850 nm vertical cavity surface emitting lasers (VCSELs) to enable a cost-effective high bandwidth solution.
