Purchase gives company flexibility in fast-moving fiber-optic field
June 22, 2000
HOPKINTON, MA -- CBL Systems, a leading supplier of fiber optic-based distributed sensing and intelligent automated control solutions, announced today that its management has completed an acquisition of a business unit of Raytheon Company (RTNA/B) that manufactures fiber-optic automated control systems. The acquisition gives CBL Systems the flexibility it needs to compete in the fast-growing fiber optic systems field.
Brian D. Morrison, formerly the manager of the Raytheon business unit that was acquired in the transaction, has been named president and chief executive officer of CBL Systems Corporation. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
CBL Systems, formerly Raytheon Control-By-Light, was established to develop new fiber optic technology applications that could serve as an alternative or complement to conventional networking media, chiefly twisted pair copper-based wiring. The benefits of fiber optic's high bandwidth capacity, superior transmission reliability and flexibility have made it increasingly attractive to a number of industries served by CBL Systems. These markets include commercial building automation, high level security/access control and fire alarms, as well as commercial and government transportation and aircraft control systems.
