Chunghwa Telecom and Alcatel-Lucent to deploy Taiwan's first GPON network

PARIS -- Alcatel-Lucent (Euronext Paris and NYSE: ALU) today announced that it has engaged in a optic-fiber network project with Chunghwa Telecom, Taiwan’s largest telecommunications provider,to build the country’s first gigabit passive optical network (GPON). The fiber-based infrastructure will enable Chunghwa Telecom to provide state-of-the-art triple-play services to its residential and business customers. Commercial operation of the initial phase of Chunghwa’s GPON network is set to commence by Q3 of 2011.

Chunghwa Telecom said that as they are upgrading their services to create the best user-experience for both enterprise and residential customers, Alcatel-Lucent’s GPON solution has been one of the best choices because of its high efficiency, stability, quality of service and professional services expertise. Alcatel-Lucent’s award-winning solution will help Chunghwa push forward their optic-fiber network initiative and further drive the adoption of fiber-based triple-play services across Taiwan.
