BellSouth Settles Call Sciences Suit

BellSouth settles patent infringement lawsuit against Call Sciences, grants license for the use of call routing and messaging patents

ATLANTA -- BellSouth Intellectual Property Marketing Corporation (BIPMARK), a wholly-owned subsidiary of BellSouth Corporation (NYSE: BLS - News), today announced that Call Sciences, Inc., has taken a non-exclusive license from BIPMARK under several BellSouth patents. The license is royalty-bearing, but detailed financial terms were not disclosed. The license covers a variety of call routing, voice messaging, and fax messaging features, and settles a patent infringement lawsuit filed in January by BellSouth against Call Sciences, a leading developer of unified communications solutions that enable service providers and corporate enterprises to deliver enhanced personal communications services. "This patent license with Call Sciences is an indication of the substantial value of BellSouth's patent portfolio," said Bill Hartselle, Managing Director of Patent Licensing for BIPMARK. "This deal demonstrates that BellSouth is a leading innovator in the telecommunications field, and has patented valuable technology that is in wide use throughout the industry. We are committed to maximizing the value of our intellectual property assets, and look forward to working with the other companies in this industry as we continue to actively seek licensees of our patents."
