Aussies Pick Marconi for Ultra-Long-Haul

HONG KONG -- Marconi (London and NASDAQ: MONI) today announced that Australian wholesale long haul carrier, Amcom IP1 (Australia) Pty Ltd has chosen Marconi's ultra-long haul soliton-based technology as part of the Amcom IP1 project. The move creates what is believed to be the world's longest commercial deployment of an overland optical transmission network without signal regeneration.Amcom has chosen Marconi's soliton-based UPLx160 equipment for the Adelaide-Perth leg of Amcom IP1 — the new high-speed fibre optic telecommunications link being constructed between Perth and Melbourne via Adelaide. Amcom IP1 is initially taking eight wavelengths — which have all been presold to customers.Amcom IP1 Managing Director, Mr Andy Mclean said: "The upgrade to Marconi's UPLx160 allows us the flexibility to easily add wavelengths for our customers as needed and take advantage of the cost benefits provided by the soliton technology.
