ARRIS Wins Caribbean Cable CMTS Contract

Extending its reach beyond North America, ARRIS snagged a deal with Columbus Communications Trinidad Ltd. to supply the Caribbean cable operator with its latest voice-over-IP (VOIP) equipment.

Under the agreement announced Monday, Columbus will use the ARRIS Cadant C4 cable modem termination system (CMTS) to support its rollout of VOIP service to cable subscribers. With the VOIP launch, the cable operator will also introduce a new triple-play offering of digital video, voice and high-speed data to its Trinidad customers, starting with the St. Augustine and Valsayn areas.

In addition, the two companies say Columbus will likely deploy ARRIS's Touchstone TM502G embedded multimedia terminal adapters (E-MTAs) as it rolls out digital voice service in Trinidad. Columbus has already been using the tech vendor's C4 CMTS devices to support its broadband data offerings.
