AMCC Announces Edge Platform

SUNNYVALE, Calif. -- Applied Micro Circuits Corp. (AMCC) (NASDAQ:AMCC - news), a leader in high-bandwidth silicon connectivity solutions for the world's optical networks, Monday detailed the industry's most complete network processing platform for building Internet infrastructure equipment at the intelligent optical edge. The nP7250 network processor, nPX5700 traffic management chipset and nPX5800 switch fabric solution -- from the pioneer of network processors, MMC Networks, a subsidiary of AMCC -- combine with the nPsoft(TM) development environment to provide a fully integrated, highly programmable, feature-rich platform for OC-48c and OC-192c connections.

The solution set includes the first single-chip, fully programmable network processor capable of wire-speed, single-stream, full-duplex OC-48c (not just channelized OC-48) for both packets and cells; the industry's most feature-rich 10 Gbps traffic management offering; a highly scalable and power, board space, and cost-optimized 320 Gbps (160 Gbps full-duplex) switch fabric, with architectural scalability to 1.2 Tbps; and a system-oriented software environment that addresses inter-processor messaging and other complete platform-related issues, not just network processor software alone. The combined platform has been architected to mesh seamlessly, allowing networking and communications vendors to minimize time-to-market, while delivering system Quality of Service (QoS) and other features not possible with most separately architected components.
