SAN FRANCISCO -- Aloha Networks, Inc., a worldwide supplier of broadband VSAT networks, will introduce several new SkyDSL Network products and performance features at the Satellite 2004 conference. The SkyDSL Router, SkyDSL SAMA® Receiver with a 256 kbps return channel, SkyTCP™ Software for IP acceleration, and the SkyNMS™ Software for monitoring and managing the SkyDSL Network will be on display at Aloha’s booth, #677.

“The small footprint and low latency of the SkyDSL Router, combined with increased return-channel speed, make the SkyDSL Network an ideal platform for a wide range of satellite broadband applications,” said Stephen Hester, Aloha’s President and COO.The SkyDSL Network fully supports today’s most popular IP applications, including VoIP, VPN, FTP, Internet browsing, encryption, unicast, and multicast.

The SkyDSL Router, Aloha’s second-generation indoor unit, is designed for either a Ku- or C-band configuration. The unit fits neatly inside a 1U-sized enclosure and includes an integrated router and an auto-ranging internal power supply.

The SkyDSL SAMA Receiver features 256 kbps return channel performance and scalability from tens of sites and users to many thousands without requiring additional hardware. Each subscriber can instantly access the full bandwidth of the return channel.

Aloha’s SkyTCP Software is a fully transparent solution that increases throughput of TCP traffic over a geostationary satellite channel. SkyTCP software enables the SkyDSL Network to ensure maximum efficiency and reliability for IP traffic over satellite.

Aloha’s SkyNMS Software, using SNMP and a graphic interface, tracks SkyDSL Network performance, traffic, and power levels. In addition, the network administrator can remotely configure SkyDSL Routers multicast software updates, and manage network abuse such as undesirable file sharing and virus attacks.

In a separate release:

Aloha Networks, Inc., a worldwide supplier of broadband VSAT networks, introduced a new, low profile SkyDSL Router today at Satellite 2004. The SkyDSL Router, an IDU or indoor component of the VSAT terminal, along with the SkyDSL Network will be on display at Aloha’s booth, #677.

Stephen Hester, Aloha’s President and COO, said, “The low profile of the SkyDSL Router, combined with the low latency and 256 kbps return channel speed of the SkyDSL Network make this the ideal platform for a wide range of applications.” Mr. Hester went on to say, “With the introduction of the small footprint SkyDSL Router, the SkyDSL Network can now address a variety of new opportunities and solutions.”

Aloha Network’s SkyDSL Router with integrated SkyTCP™ Software, and the SkyDSL Outdoor Unit combine to enable the SkyDSL VSAT Terminal to consistently provide low-latency, high-speed satellite broadband service.

The SkyDSL Router is a custom single-board design using an IBM® PowerPC® processor running embedded Linux, which resides in solid-state flash memory. The satellite modem includes an integrated 10/100 BaseT Ethernet router that supports from one to many users across both wired and wireless LANs. The auto-ranging internal power supply supports a wide range of power amplifiers and dish sizes for either a Ku- or C-band configuration. The SkyDSL Router’s 1U-sized enclosure and omni-mounting system makes it ideal for desktop, rack mount, or wall mount installations.

SkyTCP Software is a fully transparent, integrated solution that increases throughput of TCP traffic over a geostationary satellite channel. It monitors the characteristics of IP traffic over satellite and refines the behavior of the TCP protocol. In addition, SkyTCP enables the SkyDSL Network to ensure maximum efficiency and reliability for IP traffic over satellite.

Available for C-band or Ku-band installations, the SkyDSL Outdoor Unit is delivered as a complete package with antennas that range in size from 75 centimeters to 2.4 meters.

It was also announced:

Aloha Networks, Inc., a worldwide supplier of broadband VSAT networks, announced new products and performance improvements for the SkyDSL Network at Satellite 2004. Aloha’s SkyDSL SAMA® Receiver with a 256 kbps return channel, SkyTCP™ Software for IP acceleration, SkyNMS™ Software for monitoring and managing the SkyDSL Network, along with the new SkyDSL VSAT Terminal will be on display at Aloha’s booth, #677, in the main exhibit hall.

Stephen Hester, Aloha’s President and COO, said, “The SAMA Receiver’s improved 256 kbps return channel speed doubles the speed for bursty applications like Internet browsing or e-mail while taking advantage of the SAMA Receiver’s maximum user capacity and inherent low latency.” Hester went on to say, “SkyDSL products offer service providers a cost-effective broadband satellite network that delivers a premium broadband experience.”

The SkyDSL Network’s Teleport equipment, described below, includes the SkyDSL SAMA Receiver, SkyTCP Software, SkyNMS Software, and an industry-standard MPEG IP encapsulator and DVB® modulator. The SkyDSL SAMA Receiver features a 256 kbps return channel where each subscriber can instantly access the full bandwidth of the return channel that easily scales from tens of sites and users to many thousands without requiring additional hardware. Operating on C-band or Ku-band, the SkyDSL SAMA Receiver fully supports today’s most popular IP applications, including VoIP, VPN, FTP, Internet browsing, and encryption.

Aloha’s SkyTCP Software is a fully transparent solution that increases throughput of TCP traffic over a geostationary satellite channel. Based on a set of open standards, SkyTCP software monitors the characteristics of IP traffic over satellite and refines the behavior of the TCP protocol. SkyTCP software enables the SkyDSL Network to ensure maximum efficiency and reliability for IP traffic over satellite.

Aloha’s SkyNMS Software uses SNMP and a graphic interface to provide visibility to the SkyDSL SAMA Receiver and to every SkyDSL Router deployed while tracking system performance, traffic characteristics, and power levels. In addition, SkyNMS software allows Teleport administrators to remotely configure SkyDSL Routers, multicast software updates, and manage network abuse such as undesirable file sharing and virus attacks.
